How to Paint a Brass Chandelier!

Ten years ago my financial status changed drastically! I chose to be a stay at home wife so that I could take care of my father in law who was diagnosed with dementia. Well it has been hard learning to budget but it has been a Joy taking care of Pops!  A year after he moved in with us we purchased a new home. This is when my decorating passion became an obsession!  I can walk into a clients home and decorate it within days!  Well, I wish the same applied for my home.  I will began decorating my room, visit a model home or decorate a clients home and totally change my mind.  I have spent thousands of dollars redecorating for the past nine years! Guess what? I have never completed one room! I'm going to follow my own advice and start with one room at a time!
The first room I'm going to complete will be the "Pink Room"!
My first project in this room will be the lighting.  I LOVE DONNA MOSS and her show "Donna Decorates Dallas", featured on HGTV.  This week she embellished a chandelier for a bedroom.  This is such a great idea to get a beautiful custom light fixture for a bedroom on a budget, 
I've been looking for a old chandelier on craigslist and resale shops.  I couldn't find anything that caught my eye.  Well, sharing my dilemma with my friend Bonita she told me about the Habitat for Humanities Resale store.  After researching I found out their was one 12 miles from my home.  I had to take a trip to the store. Soon as I walked in the store I saw 5 chandeliers and they were only $20 each.  I had to remember that I was on a budget and only buy 1! Take a look at my $20 find!

I began to prep the chandelier for painting.  Since, I have a pinch nerve in my shoulder therefore I couldn't do any sanding.  I wasn't sure the paint would stick but, I sprayed 1 coat of primer and it held up perfect!

  I started priming the chandelier late and it had gotten dark.  Overjoyed, I couldn't wait any longer. I sprayed my first coat of paint in the dark.

The next morning I sprayed 2 additional coats of paint and sealed it with a gloss sealer.

Of course, I couldn't stop there so I purchased a ceiling medallion for only $24 at Lowes.  Since my walls and ceiling are pink I left the medallion white and just added a coat of gloss sealer. 

The total cost for this project was $36.  Supplies: Chandelier $20, Medallion $24, 2 cans of  Valspar Pink Satin Spray Paint/Primer and 1 can of Valspar Gloss Sealer $12. Take a look at my finish project! (Ignore the room décor for now. 2014 Model Home Inspirations

I hope you all had a beautiful New Years Eve. We had a great time ringing in the new year relaxing at home. We would like to Thank God for the many Blessings provided in 2013!
 We're looking forward to his continued Blessings in the New Year. Wishing you a New Year filled with Love, Happiness and Good Health!  I started my New Year visiting model homes to get inspiration for my year of redecorating our home.  Take a look at some of my favorite design inspirations.

I've never been fond of iron beds but this one definitely changed my mind. I would love to find a beautiful iron headboard for one of my guest rooms!

This fireplace is a romantic addition to the above guest bedroom.

Donna always choose beautiful beds for her bedroom designs.  This bed looks like a piece of art! Love it!

 

 

My husband would love to have one of our guest rooms look a little masculine.  I think I could live with this style!

 

The stone wall columns built into this media room are an awesome idea!

 

I am so looking forward to attempting this stone wall display in my husband's man room.

 

I never realized how important a large laundry room was until we moved into our home with a small room.  I would love to attempt to build a storage space similar to this one in our laundry room.

This faux glazed wall is breathtaking.  I'm thinking I will need to suck up to my BFF Stephanie to create this wall in my formal living room.

 

My husband has taken on a new hobby during his retirement, Cigars! I'm not fond of the hobby but I would love to create this room for him!

 

 

Yes, I'm a traditional woman! I LOVE THIS FIREPLACE! A garage sale will be happening real soon to save up for this beauty!

My Christmas Home Tour
Christmas is my favorite time of the year! I have been collecting Christmas decorations for 15 years.  (Due to a pinch nerve) This year I only decorated 7 of my 15 trees.  But, I did get a chance to decorate for a few of my clients before I had to take a holiday break.  This year I had my entire home painted so I had to move a few trees around.  This little change gave me a desire to purchase more décor!! Yeah!!
My favorite room this year is my family room.  I purchased a flocked tree accented it with white and gold, placed on a rotating stand and this is how it turned out!

We have had some unusual winter weather the past 2 weeks in Dallas.  Last week we had an ice storm which caused some much needed time to rest.  Of course during this down time I have been searching Pinterest for decorating inspirations.  Lately, I have been inspired by Vintage and Shabby Chic Décor. I literally stayed up till 4am surfing the web.  The only reason I stopped was to paint an antique vanity in my guest room.  Yes, I am a little obsessed with Decorating!! I can't help myself it is so much FUN!!  You must see some pictures that had me so inspired to paint at 4am.

 

After looking at these cool inspirations I painted this Antique vanity below! I used Annie Sloan chalk paint and dark wax to create a Shabby Chic Masterpiece!

I Love decorating and looking at model homes.  I schedule day trips to view home tours whenever they are available.  My home do not stay the same very long because I am always changing up after getting inspired by other homes.  Having a husband that allow me to freely express myself with our home décor has been a blessing.  I would like to share pictures from some of the homes I have recently visited.

The master suite is very spacious featuring a seating area and tray ceilings.  My favorite room in this model is the master bath. The tub is amazing.
